Bio:

In, 2020, Emily Afton found herself with a unique opportunity of the silver lining sort.
After releasing her EP Consideration on March 6, 2020, the global pandemic hit California and sent Afton down a musical rabbit hole chasing old recordings and figuring out how to make them better. Dividing her time between Oakland and LA, the electro indie plush-pop songwriter and multi-instrumentalist spent her time in quarantine using a new, stripped-down approach to making music– with the aim of simplifying production and getting to the core of the songs. The result of this experiment was an outpouring of creativity that resulted in her most poignant body of work yet, RECONSIDERATION (out July 16, 2021).
RECONSIDERATION is not a traditional remix EP, but a collection of reimagined songs that highlight her voice, songwriting, and personal life experiences as a queer woman and artist. Afton and her longtime drummer/collaborator Patrick Aguirre started the process of recording RECONSIDERATION in their homes; deconstructing the original EP song by song and rebuilding a more raw and acoustic universe with ribbons of electronica interwoven. Where Consideration (EP) is bombastic, busy, and loud both politically and sonically, RECONSIDERATION takes that energy and turns it inward. RECONSIDERATION is no less powerful, but is definitely more intentional– more so than anything Emily Afton has  done before.
In addition to reimagining her approach to production entirely, Afton also collaborated with friends and fellow indie darlings on the EP; Oakland artist Mahawam joined Afton on the opening track, ‘Fractions,’ and Luz Elena Mendoza of Y La Bamba contributed to the closing track, 'Lonestar.' It is no coincidence the two featured collaborators bookend the EP,  infusing a necessary sense of artistic community in times of isolation and change.
Afton views RECONSIDERATION as both an evolution and a sort of coming home to herself all in the same. She is already hard at work on her next full-length album, so stay tuned for more later this year.
